The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
