An extensive extended cruise through the Land Down Under is being halted days after the fatal incident of an elderly lady who was abandoned by the ship on a remote coastal location.

The elderly woman had been trekking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the excursion for a rest. The liner left without her and returned after some time after the ship staff realised the passenger was not present.

A large-scale search operation found her remains the next day.

Officials are examining the event, together with law enforcement and the official investigator.

The CEO of the cruise operator stated that passengers and crew on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the rest of the cruise had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and previous mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he further stated that passengers would be provided a total repayment, and said the company was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also issued an latest announcement, and said they had "provided a notice to the Captain" banning any further travelers from entering the vessel.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the liner in Cairns upon its return.
